Karl Malden:1912 - 2009

Sadly Karl Malden died at the age of 97 in his home yesterday, from natural causes.

The San Francisco Chronicle have a nice article tracking his career here.

Kirk Douglas, long-time friend of Malden, commented on his myspace page too.

Such a pity to lose an actor that contributed so much to such an awesome show.

Previous CBS remake update incorrect

Apologies guys, i was given incorrect information as the basis for that last blog post. I've deleted the blog i made on March 4th entitled 'Remake dropped by CBS, picked up by ABC-TV' because i don't want people searching on Google finding the post on its own and thinking it is still relevant. The original source for the news revealed recently that it turned out not to be true. Sorry about that.

Seems CBS still have the rights to the remake and are looking at sometime in 2010 to get things rolling. I'll keep you updated as and when i hear things, and i'll try and keep things accurate!

Filming locations page and info added

I'm so grateful for all the fans of this show - not only do i get a lot of pleasure from knowing the site is enjoyed, but i also get the occassional motivational nudge to get something done on the site!
A French fan contacted me looking for information on filming locations for the show, and i got in touch with Greg Dewar at www.njudahchronicles.com, a resident of San Francisco who was able to locate Steve Keller's house now in SF based on just a few screencaps i provided (i am still surprised!). Some internet seaches found Mike Stone's house too, so I've added a page for filming locations, along with screencaps of the houses then and now. Hopefully i'll be able to build on it in the future.

And thanks to a friend pointing me to a very sweet and complementary thread in a tSOSF section of a German forum, all this got done a lot faster than it might have otherwise. Flattery gets me working, apparently! Lol. :P

Click on Locations to the left or click here to check it out.

CBS announces The Streets remake series

Many of those moving in the somewhat limited Streets fan circles will already know this (especially seeing as i'm around a gazillion years late to this party! Sorry! Been busy.), but for those who don't - CBS have announced plans for a remake series of The Streets of San Francisco. It's better news than a remake movie, i reckon, as those can be so seeped in Hollywood machismo and drowned out so completely by the stars employed that they can be a complete disaster for original fans (eg. Starsky & Hutch, Miami Vice).

A TV show at the very least can potentially have some fresh faces in the leading roles, a slowly developing arc and hopefully some of the grit of the original show. The fact that Numb3rs producer Robert Port is one of those writing the pilot script brings me a little hope, but remakes like this are such a hit and miss thing.

Writer Lee Goldberg spoofed what has these days become a fairly standard up-rising of outraged fans here on his blog (thanks v.much for the site mention Lee!)

We may be lucky and find that the production team and directors want to remain faithful to the original, although even this doesn't really mean it's going to work in our favour.

Still, if a set of creators can transfer the electricity and chemistry of the original into the current era, then power to them. Even if they don't, a remake will at the very least get people more aware of the original show and hopefully bring in some fresh fans. (Then again, maybe not; i still have to apend "Yeah i love Battlestar Galactica!" with "the original" because everyone means the remake.)

Doubts aside, this is definitely good news for the DVD releases, because for a remake series to be on the cards the DVD sales must be doing well. It looks good for the rest of the series to be released, and at the very least we can perhaps hope that some of the original cast get a cameo in the new series (if they deem it decent enough. A bit-part in a bad remake would seem a bit too desperate on everybody's part for my liking).

That seems like a rather negative post on the matter - i'm just cautiously optimistic really. I'll try and keep this blog updated with news as i hear it, about the remake as well as the normal stuff on the original (i know i've not been real active lately, hopefully some more screen-caps coming soon!).

Season 2 vol 2 due Nov 11th!

I have barely two seconds to blog about this, as i'm just out the door for a trip surfing in Cornwall, but i had to quickly post on here that CBS have announced November 11th as the release date for the second half of the second season. Obviously sales are doing well, which is good news for us and for the chances of getting a third season on DVD!

Video clips added for Blockade and Flags Of Terror

I finally dumped my old youtube username (i only realised after registering that it made me sound like an iPhone, gah) and seeing as that requires re-registering completely, i took the opportunity to christen my new account with some tsosf video clips! I've posted a scene from Blockade including a shootout and the aftermath between our guys. Plus a scene from Flags Of Terror that i love - Steve in a tough situation and Mike feeling (and looking) concerned and totally helpless.

You can watch both clips on the media page. I'll be uploading more soon, and feel free to make requests if there's anything in particular you'd like to see. :)

Extended theme available for download

Another fan requested help getting hold of an extended version of the theme tune, and after sorting that i decided to bung it on the site for others to download too. So you can find a pretty awesome extended theme tune in mp3 format on the media page. It's 2:57 long, and the file is the best quality i could output. It's 2.7MB so might take a few minutes to download. If anyone wants a smaller file, let me know, as i can probably manage that without too much loss of quality (won't know until i try, i don't think).

Enjoy! :)

Season Two to be released July 1st

Finally CBS/Paramount announced that Season Two Vol 1 (yes, again with the stupid volumes instead of one whole season set) will be released on July 1st, hooray! No doubt that date might move around a bit, but at least we know we're getting half of season two. The whole 'volumes' thing might indicate that they're still unsure of how sales will go, so let's hope they support the release of the second volume.

You can get more info, and a look at the package art (nicely done, again), here at tvshowsondvd.com

WHOOP! :P Must celebrate by doing some more caps this weekend.

Screencaps for ep 104

I've just posted screencaps for Whose Little Boy Are You? in the episodes section. It was actually a bit of a boring episode to screencap; there's little action and most of the scenes with our guys are talking and office based. It's alot more fun to watch however, and the Vet is portrayed very well. He seems to drift through the episode oblivious to the wrong he is doing, caught in a dream world where all he can focus on is the happiness he's trying to recapture.
There's also a cool moment in this episode just before Mike goes into the tunnels to try and talk the guy out, where Steve looks at him with no small amount of fear in his eyes - scared that his partner will sacrifice his own safety out of empathy for the 'bad guy'.
The only thing that kinda irritates me about this ep (apart from the lack of fisticuffs and random shoot-outs that is :P) is that the actor playing the kid doesn't do terribly well. He's constantly looking at the camera, and doesn't successfully get any kind of feeling into the part. A pity, really. But the actor playing the Vet makes up for it.

I might have to break from order soon and cap one of my favourites from the later seasons.... like Asylum! Man, there's no way i'll keep it down to 50 caps for that ep.

Ep103 screencaps & site fixed

Well, Christmas hit me for six so updates stalled for a while, and i came back tonight to find the screencaps pages were screwed! They weren't pulling in the php properly, because i am a chump. All fixed now, sorry for the hideousness.

And i've just added screencaps for '45 Minutes From Home', the third episode of the first season. This is only the second time i've watched this ep, and i'm still impressed each time with Windom's acting. I loved his character, and i especially love that the writers don't take it down the route of utter tragedy at the end. Makes a nice change after so much angsty misery-for-the-sake-of-it writing in alot of the modern shows i watch.
